Deano Jackson – Barra Man & Photographer

When I first met Dean, I was immediately overcome with the kindness of the man. Softly spoken, unpresuming and accepting. Dean or Deano is one of the quiet achievers who goes about living his life in his unique way and with his unique warm style.

Can I remind you of an article on Barra fishing on the Cooinda wetlands. Dean is also a damn good photograher too and he has kindly agreed to allow us to share a few of his shots with you. I am passionate about Kakadu, now, and that is only after a short five day visit, just imagine how passionate you would be after 13 years.

Dean, Cheers Mate.

  1. Barra fishing on Kakadu wetlands I don’t know anything about fishing other than that I don’t know anything about fishing. To this end it seemed obvious to seek out help. 4. Cooinda Kakadu Wetlands – Just stunning Road ends at Cooinda Kakadu. No seriously the road actually ends, it’s the end of the highway. The middle shot above is of a Jabiru under attack from a Sea Eagle. The Jabiru won out and got to keep the fish. var addthis_brand = 'CameraTalk';var addthis_language = 'en';var addthis_options =...
  5. Chopper ride – Jabiru into Arnhem Land Crossed this off my ‘bucket list’ today. Jake and I drove the 50k or so to Jabiru to the Jabiru / Ranger Airfield. We had booked a chopper for a short flight out over Arnhem Land with Kakadu Air. Upon arrival we were asked “doors on or off?” – After...

About the Author

My interest in photography goes back as far, if not further, than I can remember. My Grandfather had a thing called a box brownie and i remember being amazed at how it recorded history. I was given a 120 film camera when I was about 10 as evidenced by some black and white photos I recently found of my sister when she was 5 or so - she turned 40 in 2008. So from recording history, through the passage of an EOS 5 film into digital and moving into a desire to 'make images' rather than take photos, I find myself here. Photography. "For the thrill of it." Photography. "It's where life is happening." Photography. "When time stands still." Photography. "Maybe it's just about being there again."
