Lithium Picnic

I went looking for something to rattle my tree. Something well out on left field, completely not main stream, at least from where I stand. I found Philip from Lithium Picnic Studio. I found these quotes from others and felt that I should use their words rather than try to guess for myself.

Steve Diet Goedde (Photographer) :
“Philip’s work harnesses the three components of great photography: understanding lighting, knowing composition, and bringing out the beauty of his subjects. I love being able to look through his eyes. He’s one of my favorite photographers out there, period.”

Michael Hussar (Painter) :
“Although he uses a camera. Make no mistake about it Philip is a Painter. He paints with Light…  His palette is a prism as rich and painterly as any Goya or Velasquez or Vermeer. Through the vessel that is the Female Landscape, he effortlessly establishes a direct and powerful visual dialogue with the viewer that is both voyeuristic and present.”

Chad Michael Ward (Photographer)”:
“There’s no mistaking an Lithium Picnic image when you see it.  Iconographic in form and perfectly understated in color, Lithium Picnic has carved a very defined niche in modern photography.  With equal parts fashion and fetish and a keen eye for composition, Picnic’s work is as powerful and precise as the coming storm.  You’ve been warned.”

About the Author

My interest in photography goes back as far, if not further, than I can remember. My Grandfather had a thing called a box brownie and i remember being amazed at how it recorded history. I was given a 120 film camera when I was about 10 as evidenced by some black and white photos I recently found of my sister when she was 5 or so - she turned 40 in 2008. So from recording history, through the passage of an EOS 5 film into digital and moving into a desire to 'make images' rather than take photos, I find myself here. Photography. "For the thrill of it." Photography. "It's where life is happening." Photography. "When time stands still." Photography. "Maybe it's just about being there again."
