SanDisk has announced a new range of memory cards to put some zing in your shooter. A range of 60Mb/sec and 90Mb/sec cards will soon hit the market.
Imagine for a minute a 90Mb/s 64GB card… Don’t imagine the price, just the size and speed.
I will give you a hint though that the 90Mb/s 64GB card will sell for well over $1000, at least initially.
Do you remember a few years back when 128mb cards sold like hot cakes for $125? How about when an IBM 1GB USB Microdrive was $800?
I wonder what card we’ll be talking about in another four years? Will 8 TeraByte cards with 400Mb/s will be offered for sale?

- Memory Cards For All ONE THING IN COMMON with all digital still cameras is that they all use memory cards to store images. The faster cards (45Mb and upwards) are appropriate for DSLRs that shoot High Definition video. Cards with speeds anywhere from 10Mb and upwards are suited to most DSLRs. Most compact...

It’s getting faster for many years now, however how fast is fast enough?
At the moment I am very happy with what I’ve got stuck in my camera.
Must mention that if there would not be 2 of the cards in the Nikon box, the 64GB would come handy. So far so good.
I am not itchy to look at something I don’t need, yet
As for TB, that is Tera-byte (no lung desease) I bought a 2 TB external hard-drive and that was one of the best ideas I’ve had, concerning storage for files coming from a D3x. The laptop would have crashed by now. Happy Days, Axel
I can see applications where this could be usefull, event and sports photography come to mind.
But for a lot of photogs, myself included, the issue of changing cards is a small sacrifice to pay in order to not put all the eggs in one basket so to speak.
All I currently have in my bag is 28 gigs spread out over 5 cards (Extreme III), and I would rather have this than one 28 gig card for one reason only, if a card fails, or I accidently record over it, or I lose it etc, I hopefully have another with images on it and might still get paid.
With current file sizes etc, I would rather the issue of buffer memory be addressed, and let that catch up to current card sizes, and then go from there.
That makes a lot of sense Kenny. We have had a number of customers, in time gone by, buy say 6 x 1gb Cards … one for the bride, one for the groom, one for the reception etc – label the cards as such and they commented that it helped there work flow ….
