Canon’s EOS 550D follows in the footsteps of the mega-selling EOS500D and borrows from the revolutionary EOS 7D.
It has an 18 megapixel APS-C sensor and, in video mode, offers cropping functions, full manual control and of course HD (1920 x 1080) capture at up to 30 frames a second.
The camera’s ISO range goes to 6400 (expandable to 12,800) and you can customise auto ISO, while metering is the same as the EOS 7D’s 63 zone system. SDXC cards are supported, which allows higher speeds (up to 104MB per second) and up to 2TB capacities.
The camera is soon to become available in Australia. As a guide, current US pricing is around US$900.
